Results: LOSTies Cataclysm Contest

Thank you for your submissions, Scott (Nyetitalltwo) and Kim (Kyreal). Scott, your picture was really epic and the captions you included really gave a sense of arising valor in a time of woe. Kim, you have an exceptional talent for writing! The image of a deserted Dalaran really went well with your description. Are you a writer by any chance? At some point in the future I will hold a writing contest; I already anticipate reading more of your writing.

1st Place Winner: Scott
2nd Place Winner: Kim

I really appreciate the effort you two put into this contest. It was a tough decision, both submissions had their strengths. Scott, I will need you to email me the address you wish to receive your prize. I will ship it out within the first week of January. Kyreal, I will need your email address associated with your WoW account, so I can gift you the pet; also, let me know in the email which pet you want from the Blizzard online store. It was a great contest; expect similar ones in the future.

Scott's submission:

Kim's submission:

I arrived in Azeroth later than most, just as the Lich King resistance was forming. As a result, my travels in the old world and Outland were relatively lonely. Shattrath, to me, was an empty husk, never housing more than vendors and citizens. I knew at one time it had been a thriving city, full of Alliance and Horde side by side. When I arrived at Dalaran, it was so full and busy, I was shocked. At last, I had found the hub of activity worthy of a large city.

Deathwing changed all that. Once so full of people that traffic slowed to a halt, now Dalaran sits empty. A proud city with almost no one to enjoy it's splendor. Just like Shattrath. Dalaran may not be in flames. It may not be damaged physically, but it is no longer a thriving city as before. My view of Dalaran has changed, and so I submit this view as my example of how Deathwing has altered the landscape, even in the sky.

LOSTies Cataclysm Contest

Cataclysm has arrived and LOSTies would like to invite you to usher in Deathwing's new era through our very own guild contest in honor of all the fiery wrath and brimstone that Deathwing has brought upon the face of Azeroth. The contest submission deadline is Friday the 24th at 11:59 PM, Christmas Eve. Any submissions afterward will not be accepted. Posted below are the contest rules. Good luck and Happy Holidays, LOSTies!

Contest Rules:

1) To make this contest fair for those who don't have the expansion yet, contestants are to find a fiery locale within Azeroth or Northrend that is available to ALL players, even those who don't have the Cataclysm expansion yet. You cannot enter areas inaccessible to players that don't have the expansion, such as Mount Hyjal or Twilight Highlands.

2) Once you find a fiery spot, take a picture of yourself in it. Get creative! Take a screen shot which you feel best depicts Deathwing's impact upon Azeroth and its hopeless denizens. Two screen shots are required, your creative fiery screen shot and a picture of the world map with the mouse pointer barely touching your character's dot on the map so that I can see your character's name and which zone you are in to make sure it's not a zone that is inaccessible to players without the Cataclysm expansion. I will check those zones to make sure the spot you took the screen shot at is indeed the spot that shows up on your world map photo. Be sure to hide your UI (User Interface) while taking the screen shot. If you're on a Mac, press Option and Z. It may be different buttons if you're using a PC. Finally, you must have the LOSTies guild tabard equipped!

3) Deadline for submissions is Friday 24th, 11:59 PM, Christmas Eve. That's Pacific Standard Time. No late submissions accepted. Email your two screen shots to wowlosties@gmail.com. You must include a short description of your perspective when taking the picture. Why does this picture best portray Deathwing's fiery impact on Azeroth? You are welcome to get all poetic and gung ho with this short description – it will serve as the caption to your photo. Your Cataclysm photo submission will be posted on the guild blog.

Ideas:

Be creative. You can take pictures of distraught inhabitants or of affected creatures, or take a scenic picture of a locale that's in blazing ruins. You can even take a symbolic picture depicting cataclysmic changes that will either rain destruction upon the Alliance or make it shine far greater than the Horde. All interpretations are welcome, so long as you are in the picture and the guild tabard is equipped.

Contest Prizes:

1st Place Prize: Cataclysm Expansion Pack (box version, not digital) will be mailed to you.
*If you already have the expansion pack, then you will get the same thing offered for
2nd place winner.
2nd Place Prize: Your choice of one of the Blizzard Online Store companion pets.
3rd Place Prize: Abyssal Bag (or any equivalent 22-slot bag).

Funny Alliance Youtube Videos

Alas! I've stumbled across some creative, hilarious WoW videos on Youtube! I'll admit, most of the funniest WoW videos on Youtube are created by Horde players; so it's refreshing to see awesome videos produced by our allies! The videos posted below are from Youtube user YumfriesWOW. He's got great stuff. Enjoy!

Here's a funny video explaining the producer's story of how the Celestial Steed mount came about.

Here's the producer's spoof on Blizzard trying to keep Cataclysm under wrap before it's launch date.

Team Building #1 Results 9.26.10

First of all I'd like to thank those of you who showed up for today's Team Building Excercise. I know you'd love nothing more than to raid or level up your character, but just showing up to exude team spirit and work collectively is awesome. I'm very proud of you for being team players. I'm sure the assignment you've been given to undertake was sure to bring wrinkles of thought upon your forehead, but blimey; such a great turn out! It was amazing to see such great chemistry amongst the guildies! Posted at the end of this post are some of the pictures showing the shapes you've succeeded in replicating. Please see the post directly preceding this one to see the shapes assigned, or click on the link labeled "team building" found on the left-hand side of the guild blog, and find "Team Building Excercise #1."

Great job, LOSTies! Listed below are those who showed up along with the effort points you've accumulated for the day. I hope you all will make it a point to stock up on effort points by joining us for more guild events and raids. Thanks to all the following team players:

Allen (Gagbeard) 8.5 points
Eric (Nagartaa) 5.5 points
Julian (Valenthor) 5.5 points
Angie (Isobelle) 5.5 points

Darick (Elitekiller) 5.5 points
J (Sylvenaz) 5.5 points
Kimyco 5.5 points
Macrosblack 5.5 points
Sabrina (Lycreia) 5.5 points

* Allen gets an extra three points because I had him miss out on an ICC raid.

Here two teams compete to be the first to form a star.

Here is everyone's attempt at forming the Triforce and Star Trek Badge Hybrid shape. I took the picture one second too late. They actually completed it, but the focus lens charge that was supposed to form the line across the center of the overall triangle vanished.

Finally, here is everyone's attempt at forming the final shape for the night, Figure 10.2. All previous shapes awarded .5 points, while the last two shapes assigned awarded a whole point. Great job, LOSTies!

Team Building Excercise #1: Connect the LOSTies

Have you what it takes to be a certified LOSTie? You are hereby summoned by Tides to prove your worth! Come hone your teamwork skills and have a blast with your fellow LOSTies! These team building exercises are a great way to develop communication skills, vital to raiding or just interpersonal communications in general. They're a surefire way to have fun with the guild as well.

Objectives: You and your team will be assigned a shape and number of team members to create it with. You must work together to form the shape within the time limit.

Props: 1) timer
2) focusing crystals (in-game JC recipe)

Rules: 1) You can not use anymore team members than whatever is specified.
2) Your team must complete the shape within the time limit.

Rewards: Each team member will receive the same amount of LOSTies points per shape successfully completed. Some shapes award 1/2 a point while others may award 1 point. LOSTies points will be used by the guild in an upcoming effort points-based system. Think of these points as currency for the Guild Keep and other guild perks. Pirates' Day 2010

Yarrrrgg! Pirates' Day couldn't get any better than hanging with yer WoW mates! On this day a group of us LOSTies gathered together with pirate auras on and had an awesome raid meet in the ever secretive Faldir's Cove. Some great shots were taken, along with a creepy one...who ever said ghost ships never existed seriously needs to get /bonked. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Angie (Isobelle); congratulations on hitting level 80! We're proud of you and we want you to know we're always here for ya!

Guild Keep Rules

As a starter, I'd like to thank Alex (Kamaleaga) for this awesome picture. He ever so thoughtfully reorganized one of the tabs in the vanilla LOSTies Guild Keep to spell out a certain individual's name. I personally think he was just bored out of his mind and stuck on the phone with one of his women flavors of the week. Back to the post's topic...The Guild Keep is our own hoard of treasure, varying from plunder pillaged from the many exotic locales of Azeroth to items finely crafted by your fellow LOSTies. Consider it an honor donating items into the Guild Keep, for not only are you aiding in our wealth as a guild, but you are making things slightly easier for your fellow LOSTies when it comes to leveling their professions or enhancing their gear. More importantly, you must not abuse your Guild Keep privileges by taking incessantly and never giving in return. Rules have been put into effect for the benefit of all; mind you, these rules apply to officers as well. Let us all strive to keep things fair by following these simple guidelines:

1) Repayment
- Items taken out of the Guild Keep are restricted to a two week repayment period.
Something of equal or greater value must be deposited within the two week repayment period. If you are unsure if your repayment item is fair, or you would rather deposit gold in return, ask either the Guild Keep Administrator or the Guild Master for a reasonable deal/price.
Consult the Guild Keep Admin. or the Guild Master if you have an issue repaying or need more time in returning your payment.

2) Withdrawing
In order to minimize disputes, the last three tabs of the Guild Keep are off limits to all but the Guild Keep Admin. and the Guild Master. If you see something you could really use, or you have exceeded your total withdrawals for the day, consult the Guild Keep Admin or the Guild Master.

3) Depositing
Try your best to deposit items in the appropriate tab, if you are unsure of where to deposit an item, consult the Guild Keep Admin or the Guild Master.

4) Raiding Tab
The items found within are only available to those who have enlisted into the LOSTies raiding team. Many of the items here will only be issued out based on a new effort points system in the works.

5) Donations
The guild keep is a great way for us to help each other out and improve our professions or durability out in the battlefield. Whatever is put in there is donated by your fellow guild mates to ensure that you are being helped. Please keep it fair by giving back to others. I'm not going to hound everyone to start donating. Just keep in mind that if you enjoy being a LOSTie and have a vested interest in this guild, please give whatever amount you can, and regularly. I can tell you now that I've noticed a certain guildie that donates 50 silver every now and then, and I honestly appreciate that just as much as a donation of 100 gold from a guildie once in a blue moon. Here's a tip; when I was in a former guild, I made sure to donate a small amount of gold every Friday just to show my appreciation and to show that I cared for my fellow guildies.

6) Rewards
Your hard work and charitable donations shall not go unnoticed. Expect to hear from the Guild Keep Admin. or the Guild Master if you are a regular contributor. Your honorable actions shall indeed be duly rewarded.

* * Remember to follow these guidelines and everyone will be heaps happier! If you have any questions, consult the Guild Keep Admin. or the Guild Master, either by sending them a message in-game or whispering them.

Introducing our very own Guild Keep Administrator!

The Oceanic 6 have collectively decided to enlist a new officer, Kayla (Sraydyn)! The decision was an easy one; she has already helped out a great deal by organizing our slosh of pirate's booty on numerous occasions. Kayla is our one and only twilight huntress who boasts not only the most piercings in RL but the biggest heart of all when it comes to loving her male counterparts within the guild. Thanks, Kayla for all that you are! From now on, Kayla will be our very own Guild Keep Administrator. She will oversee what is being deposited and withdrawn from our guild keep. Kayla now has the authority to enforce the guild keep rules by either penalizing those that abuse their guild keep privileges or reward those that abide by the guild keep rules. Should you have any questions regarding the guild keep, please approach Kayla or Tides.

Town Hall Meeting 7.10.2010

I want to thank everyone that could make it to our town hall meeting. I've a feeling that all the people who signed up and didn't show up forgot that it was scheduled for server time. Remember, all guild events and raids are scheduled at server time to avoid confusion. Also, whenever you're doing an instance/heroic, you're doing it on another server, so the time shown at your mini map clock will most likely reflect the wrong time. Again, I'd like to thank those of you who did show up; some really great questions were asked and insightful input offered as well. Here's a brief recap of what was covered at the town hall meeting for those of you who weren't able to show up:

Guild Ranking System -
We have a special guild ranking system in effect that is used to determine one's dedication and loyalty to the guild. If you would like to read more about the guild ranking system, at the top right hand side of the guild blog, there is a list full of labels that link directly to blog posts of important subjects. Just find label entitled "guild ranking system" and click to be redirected to the post about the guild ranking system. Everyone new to the guild must undergo a 48 hour initiation period, and after this period of evaluation, an officer will rank you up from Flight 815 to Survivor rank. Too many of you have been at the Survivor rank for much too long, and it doesn't take much to rank up to Kahana rank. Please read up on the guild ranking system by following the instructions above in order to find out what you need to do. The more rank ups you get, the more you are able to withdraw from the guild keep!

Or you can click on this link to be redirected to the guild ranking system post:
http://wowlosties.blogspot.com/search/label/guild%20ranking%20system

Guild Keep Rules -
The LOSTies Guild Keep rules are simple and just. The gist of it is that all I ask of you is that if you are going to withdraw something, please deposit something of equal or greater value, or a fair amount of gold based on what you withdraw. The guild keep is a great way for us to help each other out and improve our professions or durability out in the battlefield. Whatever is put in there is donated by your fellow guild mates to ensure that you are being helped. Please keep it fair by giving back to others. I'm not asking that you deposit equal items right away, but please do so in a timely manner. Various officers scan the guild keep log and can see records of what is deposited or withdrawn. Also, I'm not going to hound everyone to start donating.

Guild Ventrilo -
We do have a guild vent, and for more info on our guild vent, please find the label at the upper right-hand side of the blog titled "guild ventrilo," or simply visit this link: http://wowlosties.blogspot.com/search/label/guild%20vent . One important thing I'd like to note about our guild vent is that I as Guild Master, pay for our guild vent. I'm a college student, so I like most college students struggle to scratch a living in the real world. One aspect I love about our guild vent hosting website is that it features a "Group Pay" method that allows other guildies to help pay for our guild vent through one-time payments. You don't need to sign up for monthly recurring payments; you can at anytime help me out whenever you can by clicking on this link to pay just once at a time:
https://cp.light-speed.com/group-pay.php?SID=MDAxMTIwODA6MDAwOTc1ODg=

Mind you, I'm not asking you to pay at all, it's just if you think I'm a worthy guy deserving of your help, I'm not going to turn away help from a fellow guild mate. Currently, I pay $33.60 every six months for our guild vent. So if you feel like offering me help whenever you can, just click on the link above to be redirected to our guild vent hosting website to make a one-time, secure payment toward our guild vent. It doesn't have to be as high as $33.60, you could just make a one time payment of $7 for one month. Let me reiterate that it is just a one-time payment, you won't be signed up for automatic payments every month; that's the burden I have to bear as Guild Master.

Just a bit on the guild vent rules:
1) Absolutely do not give out the guild vent information to non-LOSTies. Doing so will get you banned instantly. The ONLY person allowed to do that is Tides, and he'll only do that when hosting a raid and some non-guildies are PUG'd (Pick Up Group) into the raid. For the most part, Tides will host raids consisting of LOSTies only.

2) I pay for the second lowest monthly package, which allows 15 LOSTies to be logged into the guild vent at one time. So if there is a raid and we need more spots for members in the raid, please give your spot up if you aren't raiding.

3) We're all adults, so minimal cussing is allowed. However, if you're a salty pirate and you feel the need to go berserk and all out with the cussing, or utter words that are offensive to others, either drop down to the vent channel labeled, "Tender Bar," or don't say it at all. Just a guideline, if it's something you have to ask yourself if it is offensive or not, then it is offensive to others!

4) There are many chat rooms in our guild vent with a variety of labels to help you determine their specific function. If you plan on being in one of them, please be respectful of the appropriate label designated for that room. For example, if you are in the Library Room, use inside voices and don't disturb the other LOSTies with excessive noise.

Guild Social Events -
As we are a social guild, Tides and the other officers will try their best to schedule social events regularly, at least once every other week is our aim. My goal is for our guild to be a close-knit guild where one is able to log on to a guild where they can view the guild roster and see everyone's names on the guild roster and treat them like neighbors, not strangers. There are more ways to enjoy this game aside from questing, pvp-ing and raiding, after all, and it is Tides' sincerest wish to show you the many possibilities to enjoy in other gamers' company in a world of 3-D graphics encased within your very monitor screen. Come take a break every now and then, and have a good time with your fellow LOSTies. The purpose of these guild events is to foster a true sense of camaraderie, and ensure team work and fun over all. We will try our best to schedule these events a week in advance, and they will mostly be on weekends. If you're really interested and would like to participate in these social events, be sure to keep checking the in-game calendar and the guild blog to keep updated. Some examples of past and future guild events include: Tree Huggers Unite!, meet and greets, Open Mic Night, Book Club (Tides is an English major after all), The Transporter, Paintballing, and LOSTies Expo. This is just a taste of all the LOSTies madness that we wish you could be a part of!

Guild Facebook -
Yes, we have a guild Facebook! Wouldn't it be great to see the faces behind your fellow LOSTies? If you're interested, just look Tides up on Facebook by searching for Tides Royale or by email: wowlosties@gmail.com. You'll not only get to see Tides, but many of the LOSTies as well. Come join us!

LOSTies 10-man Raiding Team -
If you are of level 80 (or close) and would like to become a part of our very own 10-man raiding team, please let the officers know through guild chat and send a message in-game to Tides, including your character name, class, spec (Tank/Heals/DPS), and current availability. I for one know all too well how hectic RL (real life) could be, so I am very understanding of your available raiding schedule. Don't worry, I won't enforce a strict raiding schedule upon you. All raids for the most part will be lead by Tides, and it is his foremost goal to make it as stress free as possible. Should anything go wrong in raids, he will see to it to ensure a chill and fun environment. He won't allow pointing of fingers, yelling or cussing. It's a game after all, and if anyone can't acknowledge that fact, they will be asked to leave.

LOSTies PVP Arena Teams -
Yes, we like to PVP as well! If you are of level 80 (or close) and would like to be a part of our own LOSTies created arena teams, please contact Julian (Claman) through guild chat or in-game mail. He is our first designated PVP officer, and if you have any questions about PVP or need tips on arena fights, he is the best we've got!

Recruiting -
For now, a temporary level cap has been placed for all new recruits. Brand new recruits must be at least level 70 and up. Right now, we would like to focus on gearing up our raiding and PVP teams, and helping the lowbie LOSTies as well. If we keep recruiting lower levels, it would result in less time offered to help lowbie LOSTies. However, if you have a really close buddy you know we could trust, or you have alt characters of your own, by all means, ask an officer to invite them.

Contacting Tides -
Should you ever need to contact Tides personally, the best way to do so is to send him a message in-game. Other options include sending him a message on Facebook or by e-mailing him at wowlosties@gmail.com. The best and surest way to get a response quick-like would be to send him a message in-game.

A new officer: Phishy!

Congratulations, Phishy! Just last night, Phishy was ushered in as one of the Oceanic 6 officers. She is our very own quirky, cactus juice-loving, healbot! I feel need to mention that she is also one to be known as a lore whore! If you have any questions about achievements, turn to Phishy! Be sure to congratulate her in-game.

Fireworks with the Crew..

I hope you all spent some quality time with your family and friends this 4th of July. Last night, a couple of the LOSTies were able to get some last minute partying done in-game. Thanks to those that could make it and light shit up WoW style! Special thanks to Eric (Nagartaa) and his traveler's mammoth mount, and Chad (Healzguy) and his levitation mastery. Also, a very special shoutout to Isobelle's beloved Arnold, one of the most loyal boars I've ever known. Blimey, that boar is loyal, and fast too for being able to keep up with Eric's ginormous, rampaging mammoth!

Our first try at Trial of the Crusader (10-man)

Hello, LOSTies. At 6pm server time, we will make our first attempt at ToC (10-man). I know most of us aren't nearly geared enough for it, but I've read some forums and a good number of the people are saying that for just the 10-man regular version, what's more important than gear score is knowing the fights. I can't promise that we're going to reach the final boss, but hey; we're all in this together. Our guild's aim is to learn to raid TOGETHER and as a TEAM. This is our first chance to evaluate where we all stand individually, and how we can each improve to bring our own strengths to the guild. Doesn't matter if we make mistakes, this is our first try. I want our raid tonight to be a stress-free and positive environment, so no pointing fingers and getting upset, this is just a game after all. We are all here for the fun and the team spirit, not to mention the awesome loot. I invite you to come join us on our very first practice run. Good luck, LOSTies!

Attached below are very helpful guides to ToC (10-man) that I found on Youtube. Watch them all! The more we all know collectively, the better our success rate.

Just hit 80? You've only just begun..

Congratulations on hitting level 80. Now you need to focus on getting geared for either PVE raiding or PVP, maybe even both if you're willing. What you need to do now is focus on getting a 5K gear score and stocking up on emblems, especially emblems of frost. If you are level 80 (or close) and interested in joining our very own 10-man Ice Crown Citadel raiding team, send your spec to Tides in-game, and let the Oceanic 6 officers know as well. Also, please view the attached brief tutorial video, never mind the dorky voice, this guy is awesome!

Added to the upper crust: Alex!

From the day he joined the guild, he's been in the guild vent, winning all the officer's hearts. From his cool demeanor to his hilarious remarks after downing the menacing horde, and especially his benevolence toward fellow LOSTies, Alex (Tankbit) has shown his value as a future officer of LOSTies. Be sure to congratulate him on his rank up!

The Good Luck Contest..

Tides is in need of some good luck charms. Winning gear drops from randoms isn't as often as he'd like. But he's got a surefire way to bolster his luck on future runs -- his guildies! You have a week to find him a new good luck charm. All obscure and kooky items are fair game, especially items that appear in white or even gray font, considered vendor trash. Anything you believe will bring Tides good luck. Just send the item to Tides through in the in-game mailing system, along with a short description of why you feel the item will bring him good fortune. Just don't send him a rabbit's foot or a pet rock (yes, they're actual in-game items), cos they're no help. Best idea will score you a prize! Deadline is next Sunday 20th, by 10:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. Happy hunting!

Recap: "I'd TONK That!!" 2.28.10

Steam tonks and LOSTies?! Heck yes, I'd so tonk that! "I'd TONK That!!" was blimey crazy! LOSTies held a tournament at the highest summit of the Hinterlands -- Aerie Peak. Six LOSTies duked it out in a match of micro proportions at its utmost intensity! Compliments of Tides' main, Oceancrest, the LOSTies were issued out miniature steam tonk controllers and then pitted against each other in battle. After three 1 vs. 1 matches, a Rumble round, and a final Death Match, the three finalists are as follows: 1st place, Davyjones, 2nd place, Serchndstry, and 3rd place, Mcblaze! Congratulations on your skill and prowess in controlling those mini tonks! Prizes were issued out, and were as follows: 20 gold and a mechanical squirrel box for 1st place, 15 gold and a mechanical pet squirrel box for 2nd place, and 10 gold for 3rd place. Thanks to all who participated in this guild event! Special thanks to the officers that helped establish order at the event, Cyondd on his shammy, Shamateur; Mekilla on his hunter, Serchndstry; and special thanks as well to the two bouncers for the event, Lifender and Davyjones.

Recap: Tree Huggers Unite! 2.12.10

Tree Huggers Unite was a hit! Thanks to all who could make it, but above all, thanks to Cyondd who came to offer his valiant protection. We meandered through one of the last bastions of ancestral beauty and tranquility in Azeroth, only to engage in mind-numbing hours of murloc genocide (blame Tides). Congratulations to Anklebiteher for being the first to find the ever elusive glowing gem! She was awarded a prize of thirty gold for her luck. We met a lone, beautiful dryad who gave us instructions on how to reconstruct a tool of utter transformation. After the reforging of this legendary rod, we hiked the peaks of Ashenvale in search of a primordial shrine. Upon finding this shrine, we were at last able to free ourselves from our mortal forms and merge our souls with the Sublime.

Recap: Meet & Greet 1.29.10

Thanks to all ten LOSTies that came to our first guild event. Deep in the darkness that prevails in Duskwood, there we stood amongst ourselves, in the strangely serene and picturesque Twilight Grove. We held a special game for the lowbies in the guild, in which we pitted them against each other in a deadly race of bravery and wits. Who ever could reach the portal and head back to the starting point first would be given honor and a grand prize of 20 gold, a 16-slot bag, and complimentary jewelry crafted by Tides himself. All the while, the contestants had to elude one of the most cunning and lethal druids birthed by the Horde. After many deaths and laughs, Travailen the warlock scored first place, followed by Desttroyer the paladin in second place and our very own spunky mage, Anklebiteher in third place. Great efforts, all who participated!
